jess, i'd keep the event date beside the date the alert arrived. a fresh alert about an old funding round could put an account into today's campaign even though the trigger has passed. that gives the rep a reason to check the underlying announcement before using it in the opener.

The test that every campaign should trace to a trigger you can name in the first line works for reps as well as founders, and a lot of the sequences reps get handed would fail it on line one. With the weekly cap around 100 requests, do you save LinkedIn for the strongest triggers and let email carry the rest?
